Now in its third year, the 2025 Shine the Light Survey reached 1,386 LGBTQIA+ participants across the United States, continuing a steady growth in participation. This represents a 52 percent increase from 2024 (914 respondents) and more than double the 2023 sample (580 respondents). The year-over-year growth reflects increased trust in the study and rising demand for data capturing LGBTQIA+ experiences in the workplace. With this expanded sample, the 2025 survey offers one of the most comprehensive snapshots yet of LGBTQIA+ workplace inclusion and opportunity.
This year’s findings show glimmers of hope alongside ongoing challenges. Nearly three in four respondents (74%) reported feeling supported at work, and 34% strongly agreed they feel comfortable raising concerns with leadership, both increases over prior years. At the same time, 18% strongly agreed they have experienced workplace discrimination, and only 43% of transgender respondents strongly agree they can use restrooms aligned with their gender identity. Salary negotiation training emerged as a top priority, with interview preparation and mentorship following as the most valuable resources. The 2025 study was made possible by 15 volunteers, including eight Advisory Group members and seven focus group participants, whose guidance and lived experiences helped shape the survey and deepen its impact.
